If you currently have amalgam (silver) tooth fillings, extra precautions can be taken to minimize mercury exposure when they are removed.

Silver amalgam tooth fillings are composed of approximately 50% mercury. With heat, mercury vapor is released and has the potential to be inhaled, ingested, or released into the environment.

Mercury-safe dentistry involves taking some extra steps to minimize this exposure during the removal process. Guidelines are followed according to IAOMT protocols. We also are equipped with a mercury separator. This prevents any mercury from amalgam filling removal in our water system from entering the environment. For those concerned with toxicity issues they may already have, there are physicians we can help refer you to that can get you back on the road to optimal health.

In choosing the best material to replace these tooth fillings, our office additionally works to provide biocompatible alternatives such as non-toxic mercury-free tooth fillings made of tooth-colored composite resins or porcelain. For those with concerns on sensitivity to dental products, a lab test can be performed to find out which materials will be suitable for you and customize your treatment options appropriately.
