Innovative New FDA-Approved
Technology Eliminates Harmful, Ugly Mercury Fillings and
Provides Complete “Smile Makeovers” in Just 1
Appointment
Lawrence, Kansas (KS) – October
14, 2004 – Smile – Local dentist, Les Miller of
Lawrence Dental Solutions is using an innovative new
FDA-approved robotic technology called
CEREC 3D to eliminate
harmful and ugly mercury fillings and provide complete
smile makeovers. This new technology eliminates the need
for outside lab work enabling patients to repair their
teeth and get their natural, attractive smile back in
just one convenient appointment.
“Technology today is changing our everyday lives,” said
dentist Les Miller. Many, people however, aren’t aware
that technology also is impacting dentistry in new and
exciting ways. In fact, cutting-edge innovations in
dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental
chair, while creating great results and beautiful teeth.
One breakthrough instrument, called
CEREC 3D, allows dentists
to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored
ceramic fillings, saving patients time and
inconvenience.”
What is CEREC 3D?
CEREC 3D is an acronym
for Chairside Economical Restoration
of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means
that a dentist can restore damaged teeth in a single
appointment using a high-quality porcelain material that
matches the natural color of other teeth.
How does the instrument work?
CEREC 3D uses CAD/CAM
(Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing)
technology, incorporating a camera, computer and milling
machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a special
camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth.
This optical impression is transferred and displayed on
a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD
technology to design the restoration. The CAM takes over
and automatically creates the restoration while the
patient waits... right before their eyes. Finally, the
dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the
old tooth. The whole process takes about an hour.
What does this innovation mean for the client?
A tooth-colored restoration means no more mercury-silver
fillings and discolored smiles. It also means saving all
of the good enamel instead of cutting the tooth down to
a stub for a crown. The restoration is natural-looking,
compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive,
plaque-resistant, and mercury free. Dentist no longer
need to create temporaries that sometimes come off or
take messy impressions and send them to a lab. Because
of this, the traditional second visit has been
eliminated.
A CEREC Case Study:
This before and after case study is
one we see one a daily basis. The before photo shows a
mercury filling that is breaking down and
leaking, which causes the tooth to look dark. It is
also allowing bacteria to seep into the crevice
between tooth and filling, which causes decay.

Before CEREC
With the CEREC technology, we can
restore the tooth to its original strength and
appearance in just one convenient appointment. This
young woman now has a much more attractive smile!
